‘You’re on Your Own’: French Nationals in the Far East Seek Passage Home.

Cyril Le Corre, La Bastide Gazette

12 June 1695

Trouble is brewing in paradise as large numbers of Compagnie clerks and tradesmen have been stranded at Port Des Mines in the far east, with little hop of procuring passage home.

“The Compagnie have promised us silver and jeweled sands when they shipped us over. Paradise, they called it. Bordel de merde (goddamit). Instead, we got mud on our boots and muck for gruel. Now, all we want to do is retun home to our families, but the Compagnie refuses to pay for our passage!” a former worked said, declining to be named.

The Compagnie’s struggles in the region have been well documented, as the Sea People and Clan of Fara prove themselves difficult to subdue. This manpower drain is sure to worsen their fortunes.

In response, a Compagnie spokesperson had this to say: “Turnover is in line with our competitors in the region. No matter how many choose to leave, there will always be talented individuals eager to aid the Compagnie in our endeavours.”
