Teuling Brings Shitters to Sainte-Anne

La Bastide Gazette, 15 August 1695

by Cyril Le Corre

On Saturday, the citizens of Sainte-Anne breathed a sigh of relief at the installation of ten outhouses on the outskirts of the city, courtesy of successful tradesman and business owner, Fredryck Teuling.

“Finally, I don’t have to defecate in the bushes next to Scurlock’s warehouse,” one citizen said, declining to be name for fear of the kingpin’s repercussions.

Teuling himself was received by a cheering crowd at the Grand Opening, with the shipowner and patron of Scurlock having the honour of the first shit on the privy before emerging with a wave and smile.

“I am glad to serve the people of Sainte-Anne,” Teuling said briefly. “Their hard work, toil and sweat are the very things that move the bowels of this fine city!”
