This year I am finally allowed to join my older siblings in Famadihana. They told me to follow their lead when we unwrap the bones of our parents, but I am not to carry the corpse when the singing ritual begins. According to the eldest, my height will cause the procession to topple since the ritual requires us to carry the bones above our heads as they circle the tomb.

It is unfair and unjust! I may be the youngest, but I am still a son of this family. Once the new cloth has been wrapped, and their names freshly written, I will seize the opportunity to hoist my parents above my heads before the others have time to protest. I cannot wait to see the look on their faces!
