Queen Halisi
Today I learned a new word: “Beheaded”. It means that a scary man with a big sword cuts your head off after you make Father or Mother very angry. And Mother was very very angry. Mother says that Aunt Jasiri was a msaliti (traitor). She deserved to die.
I asked Mother to please not behead me, no matter how angry I made her. Mother hugged me tight and said she would never. Then she looked at me fiercely.
“Binti (daughter), when you become Queen, you must show that you are strong. If anyone even tried to step on you, cut their head off.”
After that, she brought me to bury Aunt Jasiri at Pillar Tomb. I don’t understand. Mother hates Aunt Jasiri! Why bury her here with Nyanya (grandmother) and everyone we love? Mother looked at me, eyes red and puffy.
“Because she is still my sister.”
Maybe Mother is not that strong. When I become Queen, nobody will ever step on me. And if anyone dares, I will behead them and throw their body into the sea.
