The Exeter and meeting The Captain

Asnah was amongst the crew of the Exeter, under Captain Abel Rassler.

On 6 August 1695, it ran aground on the reefs of the Atolls as a result of poor visibility somewhere near Mother of Shipwrecks. She escaped the Exeter along with another sailor. Together, they recovered the dhow Exeter’s Jolly from the waters near the beached shipwreck. They discovered the washed up player Captain, handing them Rassler’s Captain’s journal.

Ignoring the other members of the Exeter’s crew in the Atolls, Asnah insisted that the Captain should rapidly depart from the reefed islands. They escaped the Atolls and sailed from the Atolls to Sainte-Anne, whereupon they disembark onto the docks of the pirate den.

Asnah continued to ingraciate herself to the Captain by serving as a guide and informed them of key information about the local tribes, European corporations, amongst other facts. This knowledge of most aspects of the Skull & Bones Indian Ocean suggests a substantial career of naval exploration or having access to other information sources that the Captain does not.

Asnah presents herself as indispensable to the Captain during her tenure as First Mate.

Background

She promoted herself to the Captain’s First Mate. The term “First Mate” is more commonly associated with military vessels, instead of pirate ships. The Quartermaster on a pirate vessel would commonly fulfil the duties of a First Mate or First Officer. This suggests that Asnah may have served on naval vessels previously, the details of those prior vessels are not known.

She is familiar with Captain Uricko Freeman as she is the only character who uses terms such as “Freeman’s Luck” and mentions details of the heist of the DMC ship Schaduw.  The exact meaning of the term “Freeman’s Luck” is not known.

Physical Traits

She is tattooed with the stylised Octopus logo of The Helm, suggesting an allegiance to parties other than the Captain. Her relationship to or position within The Helm is not known. Asnah is familiar with key characters within the Helm organisation.

She wears a necklace that appears to depict Mahakala, a prominent deity in the Kalikula sect of Shaktism. Shaktism is a Hindu denomination wherby the pantheon is almost exclusively represented by goddesses, each representing an aspect of the supreme goddess Shakti, the female counterpart to Shiva. This form of Shaktism is most dominant in northeastern India.

Asnah’s necklace depicting Mahakala

The word Mahakala itself is a Sanskrit compound word of mahā “great” and kāla “time/death”, and means”beyond time” or “beyond death.” Mahākāla is known to annihilate men, women, children, animals, the world, and the entire universe without mercy because they are Kala or Time in the personified form, and Time is not bound by anything, and Time does not show mercy, nor does it wait for anything or anyone.

The exact reason why Asnah is wearing a necklace of an aspect that is “Beyond Time” or “Beyond Death” that is a representation of extreme destruction is not known.
